I am going to go out on a limb here & say that hand lettering is becoming a lost art. The less & less we write out, the worse our handwriting is becomes. Imagine writing a whole email by hand?!
Unless this is, if you're Molly Jacques! I have been really keen on hand lettering lately & really want to make a conscious effort to work on writing more. Whether it may be lists, ideas or snail mail. Molly really inspired me this evening with her beautiful hand lettering. Plus it doesn't hurt the quotes she happens to write are absolutely inspiring--I mean Christopher Robins? Brilliant.
I'm sure you've seen her stuff popping up all over pinterest, design blogs & even online shops.
One of the best things I discovered on Molly's site is that she personally shows you how to create a holiday card with her own signature flair--see the directions here. There is still time to whip some of these bad boys up & get them out the door!

The New York Times Design section never lets me down. The Makeunder article of John Derian's home had me double glancing ever detail--the floors, the window panes, the perfectly placed floral arrangements really bring this place alive. I dig every detail 100%.

Dwell just did a editorial on this beautiful renovation of an Italian farmhouse in the country and I couldn't stop staring--I must have gone through the slideshow 5x. The attention to detail in this home alone knocks my socks off as well as the superb materiality throughout the residence. The authentic of the original bones blends seamlessly with the clean & modern lines of the new details. I can only dream of one day stepping inside a home so beautiful.

I guess this kind of party would technically be considered a "farm" party & I for one, am all about this new take on an outdoor party. Any kind of setting that has lush surroundings, warm glowing lights and simplistic seating I am a strong supporter no matter where the location is.

Speaking of YP lifestyle--what better way to start off some fresh posts than with this artsy little lady? Only 27 and look at this stunning apartment Kyle DeWoody has acquired for herself...not.too.shabby.
She is owner of her own design shop, Grey Area as well as creative director. You go girl--I'd be happy with half this art & furniture collection at 27!

I have been MIA (again). But for plenty of good reasons. I have been adjusting to this wonderful, wonderful new lifestyle of the young professional & trust me I have been soaking it up! Maybe a little too much...
My days have been filled with all sorts of things that make my heart sing. Good friends. Good design. Good food.
My motto these days is simply to follow my own personal bliss and so far it has lead me to some wonderful places and people. I have pressed some letters (letterpress), become a regular at the Ballard farmer's market and have been continuing to look for the beauty in the everyday details.
Can't wait to share more--I hope I am back for good! I have lots of inspiration up my sleeve that I just sometimes get too sidetracked to share & what good is that for you or me?
Cheers to a wonderful start to summer & lots of fun posts to come along!
Image above is a compilation of some of my latest instagrams--be sure to follow me here because I am 120% addicted to this way of capturing personal lifestyle!

I would like to meet Leanne Shapton in real life and ask her a thing or two...How does she make the simplest text and images look so beautiful and lively? I love the way she can take everyday objects and simplify them just to the basic outline and color. She is a rockstar who is featured in the New York Times and does dozen of other collaborations including book covers. I would love to see her illustrations in the Seattle Times some day. It would simply brighten my day at first glance!
Even though I haven't blogged for months--some things never change. I will forever love a fresh white interior. It is the ultimate canvas for layering color & texture and really lets the furnishings become a work of art. I'm sure this home isn't new to some of you since it's been floating around the net (and featured in the spring Times Design mag) but this is the quintessential "d&f" kind of home! Love the strong graphic pops contrasting elegant light fixtures and just enough of color to brighten your spirits. Harriet Anstruther is most definitely a homegirl. Not just for her home but she also has work in the V&A, works directly with the London Design museum and all around has super rad taste! Cheers to you Harriet, keep up the good work!

This barn/home has been floating around a lot lately on the internet and I too have particularly drawn to it. Mainly because the home owners weren't afraid to simply use exposed OSB as the dominate material throughout the home. Doesn't get more down to the earth than that, especially when are physically living in the middle of meadow somewhere in Great Britain. Another detail that I am particularly fond of is the exposed beams and structural details that are involved. If I have learned anything over the last months working in the design field, it is my true love of honest materials & well thought out details which are both impressively apparent in this home. I would happily vacation here sometime in the near future...
